Dream Logic
Digital Painting by Jay Gidwitz
I created this image during the summer program at NYU in 2007, while I was taking a writing class. It came to me during some issues with a relationship at the time, and I created the image– obsessing over the image with the wacom tablet on my lap for several days to complete it. (While I should have been working on my writing. Sorry Nettie!!)
Artist Statement for Dream Logic
The image was made with different photographs I took at different time; from the model a few months before, a rose and the eggs I purchased down the street in New York City, and severed head is a picture of myself.
The blue texture was from the peeling paint of the radiator of the dilapidated NYU dorm room.
All the images were compiled in photoshop.
Concept of Dream Logic
I was going through a rough time in a relationship, as I already said.
For me, the female figure is mourning. The male signifier is partially present, but not fully present in the image.
The roses represent something that looks beautiful; and the fact that one is coming out of the male’s mouth speaks to something said, but again he isn’t present.
